Femme Monument by Joan Miro 1970 |
The marvellous work of Joan Miro, Catalan surrealist extaordinaire, is on view at Yorkshire Sculpture Park for the rest of this year.
Miro started his artistic career as a representational painter and under the influence of Andre Breton began to experiment with Surrealist techiniques in the early 1920's.
By 1930 Miro was one of the foremost surrealist painters, though he only began creating sculpture much later in his career.
The outdoor displays are great, the indoor ones, in the Underground Gallery, are probably great too but were very crowded when I visited last Sunday. I will have to go back on a weekday to get a better view.
